Create Your Own Educational Animations! + Powtoon + My Animation (Cohesion vs. Coherence)

Welcome to today's blog. Today on our menu, we have animations and I am sure this topic will get your attention right away. I mean who doesn't like animations?! Without further ado, let's dig in!

What are Animations? How to Use Animations in Education?

Animations are the methods that manipulate figures and images to appear as moving images.
Instructors can produce animations for the specific purpose of using them in their classrooms and fostering learning for students. Educational animations are associated with educational technology and technological tools and they facilitate teaching-learning and improve classroom performance.

Why Teachers Should Use Animations In Their Classrooms?

Animated educational videos:

Enhance creativity in learners.

Motivate learners to learn more complex content and information.

Engage learners in their learning processes.

Improve comprehension in the classroom.

Help teachers to visually represent abstract ideas.

Help visual learners.

Some Tools For Creating Educational Animations

Let's talk about PowToon and my experience on PowToon in more detail.

What is PowToon?

PowToon is a web-based software that allows its users to create animated videos and presentations. Teachers can easily create animated presentations for their students by using images, provided music, voice-overs, and so on. There is a free version available on their website as well as a paid version that has more features available.

You can use PowToon in marketing, internal communications, training as well as education.

Also, on their website, you can find more information about why you should use PowToon to communicate visually.

How to Use PowToon?

First of all, you need to have an account to use Powtoon. After getting your account, you can start to create your own animations.

There are a lot of different looks on Powtoon that you can use for your videos.

While creating my own animation about Cohesion and Coherence, I chose to use the first look.

You can choose different video sizes for your animation. I preferred to use the 16:9 one.

Also, while you are designing your video, you can use different tools.

For instance, in the text section, you can add titles, subtitles and body texts to your slides.

In the background section, you can add various backgrounds to your videos.

For instance, I preferred to search for 'school' and 'blackboard' and use them in my slides.

Moreover, you can add music, voiceovers, characters, images, etc. to your animation by using these tools and choosing different things.
